R33 Models

Production Dates & Models

The first series of Skyline (R33GTS-T) were released from August 1993 until February 1994.

Series 1 R33's have rounder front bumpers and different style front grille, headlamps and bonnet.

Series 2 R33 GTST's took over until 1998 when the R33 range was discontinued to make way for the R34 model.

They have a squarer more intimidating look to them, whereas Series I seem less intimidating.

There were also some engine / ignition revisions during this change over, where parts such as coil pack amplifier, different oil cooler location and a few other changes.

Series II skylines were also produced as a 4 door model, like the one below

Although these revisions were made for the Spec 2, its not uncommon for Spec 2 GTSTS to have some Spec 1 parts, this was done as Nissan had parts to use up, and it seems bolted on whatever was at hand at the time. And the situation works the other way as well - there are Spec 1's out there with Spec 2 parts.

However this shouldn't put anyone off as its not just something they did with the Skyline's, you will probably find there are lots of manufacturers doing this with their range of vehicles.

Unfortunately, many R33's GTST's get written off because of their lively "back ends" which in the wet, will always consider trying to overtake the front of the car. - This is something every Skyline owner should master, knowing how the car reacts under certain conditions, and how the driver should react to rectify the situation. This is easier said than done, as each situation differs as do surroundings.

Interior

The inside is boring, if Im totally honest. No fancy dials or gadgets here, it came with a Blaupunkt tape player, CD if you were lucky enough, 2 door speakers and 2 rear shelf speakers which are the basic 45Watt mids with built in Tweeter (single).

Typically they now sell from £2,000.00 upwards depending on their condition, although highly modified R33's seem to go for quite a price, up to £30,000.00 in one case I've seen. You could argue that its better to buy an R33 GTR and be done with it, as it has the RB26DETT (twin turbo 2.6 engine) and 4 wheel drive, and yes I'd agree that the GT-R is a great car, but it hasnt got the fun you can have in the GTS-T.
