Tyres

Here I hope to help clarify as much as possible when it comes to tyres, it does seem to drag on a bit, but its everything you should know... and this page is currently under construction..please be patient.

The factory standard fitment tyres are 205/55/16 91 V. What does all this mean?

205 is the width of the tyre from sidewall to sidewall, and is measured in milimeters, meaning 205mm width.

55 is the aspect ratio / percentage of the tyre width, also measured in milimeters.
16 is the size of the tyre, and measured in inches.

91 is the load index of the tyre - in this case 615Kg per tyre, at maximum tyre pressure

V is the speed rating of the tyre, which is 149mph.

Tyre pressures:
The maufacturers recommended pressure is 30psi on both front & rear axles

Tyre features:

Most tyres will have what are known as "Dot Codes", on tyres pre 2000 they are represented by an arrow and usually 3 numbers follow, i.e. >492 - in this instance it means the tyre was constructed in the 49th week of 1992, although since the actual year is 2009, it would mean the tyre is 17 years old and well past its working life, which is 10 years at most.
Post 2000 tyres have four digit codes, such as 4908, meaning it was constructed on the 49th week, in 2008.

Country of construction can also be found on the side wall, i.e Made in Spain/ Poland/ Germany etc, although the location of production often doesnt come into effect with how well the tyre performs, this is based on the price you want to pay.

Budget tyres often dont offer the road grip, quietness and ability to expell water that higher priced rivals offer, more often than not they wear out a lot quicker even if well maintained throughout its working life.
