B.O.V Installation & Setup
Tools Needed:
3/8 Drive Ratchet, 3" extension, 8mm & 10mm sockets
10mm spanner
3mm Allen key
Pliers
Extra Parts Needed:
Either a "proper" blanking plug, or a Screw Cap from a plastic bottle such as Fanta - I use the Lemon bottle top, for the record....
A flange designed for the Blitz B.O.V.
Start off by undoing the 2 metal circlips (jubilee clips) that connects the standard recirculating B.O.V. and gently twist it in either direction - you may need an angled skewer or screw driver to prise the rubber join from the metal recirculating pipe, and possibly the same for the factory B.O.V.
Push the rubber join down (toward you if standing by the n/s front wing).
Now remove the vacuum pipe from the inlet manifold, that is connected to the standard B.O.V. - you may need the pliers for this as they have better grip.
Undo the two 10mm bolts that connect the standard B.O.V to the intake pipe, keep these safe and the gasket as well - all are used when fitting the Blitz B.O.V.
Bolt the Blitz to the adapter flange, using the gasket provided (although these can be made from gasket paper if needed). And then fit the metal gasket in place and bolt the bov & flange to the intake pipe, place the vacuum pipe from the BOV to the intake manifold (where you removed the original BOV from.
Re locate the recirc rubber hose, and tighten the bottom jubilee clip first, now you need to blank off the recirc pipe with either a blanking plug or bottle top. Seal this with the remaining jubilee clip, but dont overtighten as it will just crush the bottle top, if thats what your using.
Now you need to run the engine, and adjust the setting on the Blitz B.O.V using a 10mm spanner (to undo the securing nut) and a 3mm allen key.
If you listen closely to the bov, you may hear it letting air escape and the engine will probably be running rough at this stage. You need to work the adjuster until no air is coming out of the B.O.V . Give the engine a few revs to activate the B.O.V and then go for a road test. Some minor adjustment may be needed once more to the bov adjuster.
This concludes the removal of the factory recirc, and fitting a Blitz DD vent to atmosphere blow off valve. |
